What do journalists look for in an author pitch?
Journalists generally look for four things: a reason the story matters now, a source with real expertise, a clear benefit for their readers, and someone who responds quickly. A business book helps with the second point, but the other three come from how the pitch is framed.
For a CEO, that might be a view on a trend in their industry. For an attorney, a plain-language explanation of a legal issue that affects ordinary people. In each case the book sits in the background as proof of expertise, and the story leads.
